Beautiful Sculptures Made of Pencils by Jennifer Maestre
As we know pencils are used for writing. But who ever imagine that we can create sculptures from pencils. Here they are. Michigan-based artist Jennifer Maestre has presented the latest sculptures made of pencils. They are beautiful sculptures I’ve ever seen. It is hard to describe and difficult to compare with anything else. One word that I can say, they are so amazing.
Originally inspired by the form and function of the sea urchin, the sculptures arise different emotions in us but, first of all, it’s excitement. They remind us with some of animals, plants, other art, Ernst Haeckel, Odilon Redon, mythology. To produce sculptures from pencils is not easy. It needs thousands of pencils. The pencils are cut into 1-inch sections, drilled a hole in each section (to turn them into beads), sharpen them all and sew them together. Maestre used the pencils that are colored, so she doesn’t need to paint them. The results are beautiful sculptures with many forms. Here are some of them: Ibentina, Pelt, Materialize, Kraken.
