Creative Blockshelf by Amy Hunting
What can you do with blocks of wood and cotton rope? Burn it, it might be the first idea crossed in my mind. But Norwegian furniture designer Amy Hunting has created a beautiful bookshelf made of mixed blocks of wood and cotton rope. The bookshelf is called Blockshelf. It is fantastic and space-saving bookshelf options. Amy has won the 2nd award at Green Furniture Award 2010 where her prototype has been taken on by Green Furniture Sweden and has been put into production using wood leftovers from a wood flooring factory in Sweden. It is a great a job.
The Blockshelf is made from salvaged blocks of wood and cotton sailing rope. To create this innovative shelf Amy has used blocks of over 20 types of wood, found in a London timber importers waste bin and cotton rope. Using off-cuts of wood, Amy creates the most of what others might ignore or throw out, demonstrating an eco-conscience without losing her savvy. For the prototype Block Shelf, Amy used cotton sailing rope and untreated blocks of wood to fashion a versatile storage solution that can be disassembled and easily put back together again when needed. Besides, the Blockshelf can not only support books and other things you wish to display but also acts as a room divider. The shelf is for sale now from Green Furniture Sweden and retails for €500 (about $637 U.S.). For info click here.
